A teenage boy was left terrified after a man wearing a balaclava tried to rob him at knife point.

Police are appealing for information from the public following the crime in Denbigh.

The incident is believed to have happened at about 10pm on Saturday 19 August, when a teenage boy was walking in an alleyway off Henllan Street.

He was approached by a man who demanded he hand over his phone and threatened him with a knife.

The victim ran to safety unhurt and nothing was stolen.

The suspect is described as being in his early 20s and was wearing a grey tracksuit, grey hoody and a balaclava.

Police said the victim lashed out at the man, who dropped the knife, and the teenager ran home and alerted his parents, who immediately called the police.

They were on the scene within minutes and conducted a search of the area, but no one has been arrested and an appeal for information has been issued.

Glenn Swingler, county councillor for Upper Denbigh, said: “We cannot and will not allow this sort of behaviour. The people of Denbigh will not accept it.”

The attacker was white and between five feet nine and five feet 10 inches tall, and was wearing a grey top and grey bottoms with black shoes.

He was also said to have “reddening to his eyes” and the rest of his face was covered by a black balaclava.
